Regulate the Brightness of EMCs & Enact Proper Zoning

This seminar teaches how to explain to regulators just how images are created on EMCs. Educating city officials about the new technologies is key to getting business friendly sign code language enacted. Current trends and tools used by regulators to curtail movement will be discussed, and a model code framework which you can provide to city officials will be explained. Finally, attendees will hear tips on how to approach city officials and talk about the importance of allowing a short hold time on static images as well as frame effects, animations, and video content.
Participants will:
- Gain a general understanding of how electronic message centers project different images.
- Review various examples of typical regulatory language for EMCs.
- Acquire tips for advocating to their local communities for appropriate regulations.
Roger Brown handles signage legislation concerns for Daktronics. He has a law degree from George Mason Law School. Roger is a member of the ISA Government Relations Committee and Legal Strategy Subcommittee. Daktronics is a founding member of EDERA, the Electronic Display Educational Resource Association. Roger is an active participant in their goal of creating and advocating responsible zoning laws regarding the regulation of electronic message centers.

This seminar meets all of the technical training course requirements for electrical contractors’ license holders in the State of Florida. Attendees will gain technical knowledge of transformers and the neon industry and be able to apply these techniques in neon installation, service, and maintenance. The presentation will be in the form of a lecture combined with demonstrations using neon and neon transformers. A question and answer session will follow each section to determine participants’ comprehension and achievements.

Morgan Crook is a mechanical engineer, tube bender and president of Neon Design Group, a wholesale, retail and consulting firm in Columbia, South Carolina. His writing has appeared in major trade periodicals throughout the past decade. In his professional capacity, Morgan has visited more than 500 neon shops.

Learn why sign manufacturers and installers should use the states’ Mechanic’s and Construction Lien and Bond laws to protect their accounts receivable and collect outstanding invoices in a timely manner. In this seminar, you will hear how these laws work, terminology, time limits required and the process of sending notices and filing liens. State public bond claim regulations and the Miller Act for federal projects will be discussed.

Tony Williams has been with Nationwide Credit Service (NCS) for 21 years and is an Executive Sales Manager. Throughout the past 20 years, Tony has presented seminars and spoken before numerous credit and manufacturers groups about the Mechanic's Lien and Bond Claim Laws and Surety provided under Article #9 of the Uniform Commercial Code [UCC-1].

This seminar will touch on technologies and applications for digital imaging, but focus on the development of digitally imaged products and answer concerns on color consistency, durability, and price. Learn to design signs utilizing digital imaging to allow for custom spot colors, complex graphic elements as well as gradients and pictorials that will give you a competitive selling advantage, raise the perceived value of the signage as advertising, and often cost less to manufacturer. Marty Guinee has worked in the sign industry for 13 years. During that time, he has worked in marketing, sales and management and is currently vice president of Sales and Marketing for Miratec Systems. This session will examine the critical business issues that every sign company faces in an era when both clients and regulators are demanding products and practices that are more environmentally conscious. This presentation will focus on the major environmental issues facing the on-premise sign industry today including mercury disposal and other waste-generation concerns, material recyclability, and a host of considerations with lighting, including efficiency, daylighting techniques, and more. Further, the presentation will outline ISA’s efforts in each of these arenas on behalf of the industry.
Rich Gottwald is the vice president for technical and educational initiatives for the International Sign Association. In this capacity, he is responsible for providing oversight and leadership on the regulatory and technical challenges and opportunities facing the on-premise sing industry. Rich also has responsibility for growing ISA’s education efforts which include both the annual sign expo education series, and ISA’s regional educational programs.
Prior to joining ISA, Rich held senior management positions in several other trade associations including executive vice president for the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, president of the Plastics Pipe Institute, and executive director of the Society of the Plastics Industry.
Rich holds a BS in Plastics Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and is a Certified Association Executive.

Make Money Enhancing Vinyl Vehicle Graphics

This workshop will cover the basic tools, materials and techniques for professional application of vinyl graphics, including the differences between cast and calendared vinyl and recommended procedures for substrate preparation. Vinyl applications to various substrates will be demonstrated and techniques for safely removing applied graphics will be reviewed.
Participants will:
- Learn the appropriate tools to include in a well-stocked vinyl application toolbox.
- Review the recommended procedures for prepping various vehicle surfaces and applying graphics to a variety of substrates.
- Cover the basic techniques for safely and efficiently removing old vinyl graphics.
Sean "The Machine" Rhodes is the Training Operations Manager and Lead Instructor for Lowen Certified, a 3M Authorized graphic installation certification and training center in Hutchinson, KS. Rhodes started out at the age of 16 in the vinyl graphic industry, later assisting Sergio Desoto with S.N.A. Graphics, The Bad Wrap template system, and the vehicle wrap training program for the world's largest supplier of wrap related items. Sean is recognized as one of the industry’s foremost experts on vehicle graphic and wrap installation. Since joining Lowen, Sean has been instrumental in developing the industry’s first skill driven installation certification program.
