What kind of educational programs does the International Sign Academy offer?
What are PDUs?
PDUs are “points” or “credits” earned for participating in International Sign Academy educational programs. Each PDU earned is based on the amount of time required for completion of a course, as well as the level of interaction required by the course.
- All Sign Academy webinar participants earn one PDU.
- Participants in seminars at the International Sign Expo or offered through the Sign Academy in regional/local jurisdictions will be awarded PDUs on the following scale:
- Participants in programs lasting three hours or less earn two PDUs.
- Participants in half-day programs earn three PDUs.
- Participants in full-day programs earn four PDUs.
- The maximum number of PDUs granted for any individual program does not exceed four PDUs per full day.

I work for a sign company. How do PDUs benefit me?
As an individual, earning PDUs means you are gaining essential knowledge in your profession. You become an even more productive employee and receive the personal enrichment and recognition you deserve for improving your quality of life through continuing education programming. In addition, you reach a new level of accomplishment for every fifteen PDUs you earn. For instance, you reach Level One by completing PDU qualified courses totaling 15 PDUs. Level Two can be attained by earning 30 PDUs; Level Three by earning 45 PDUs, and so on. Further, you have the opportunity of reaching each level in either one subject area or across multiple subject areas.

I own a sign company. How do PDUs benefit me?
As a sign company owner, PDUs benefit you in a variety of ways. First, when your employees participate in quality Sign Academy educational programs, you have a better-trained workforce that becomes increasingly more productive and helps improve your business’s bottom line. Next, when your employees, including yourself, obtain a specific number of PDUs per year, your company will be recognized by the International Sign Academy with a Quality Training Accomplishment award. The company Quality Training Accomplishment awards are granted as follows:
- Bronze Training Award: Owner and/or employees earn 15 – 25 PDUs within a calendar year.
- Silver Training Award: Owner and/or employees earn 26 – 50 PDUs within a calendar year.
- Gold Training Award: Owner and/or employees earn 51 – 75 PDUs within a calendar year.
- Platinum Training Award: Owner and/or employees earn 76 or higher PDUs within a calendar year.
By earning PDUs and Quality Training awards, you increase the value of your company and gain a competitive advantage over those that do not. You are able to include your recognitions and learning/training accomplishments in your company profile, in bids for work, in your marketing literature, on your website and more.
While the individual achievement of programming completion remains with the individual, Quality Training Accomplishments remain with your company.
