Let There Be Light

Much of the country ends daylight savings time next week; remember, an extra hour of sleep the night of Nov. 4 into Nov. 5. But for businesses, it will mean more operating hours in the dark. So how do they let customers know they are there and open? Illuminated signs and electronic message centers.

Thanks to research from the Sign Research Foundation, there is proof that illuminated signs deliver a greater economic impact than signs without illumination.

But there is such a thing as “too bright.” Thanks to ISA’s Night-time Brightness Recommendations, communities can set reasonable limits on the brightness of EMCs, navigating the important balance between aesthetics and effectiveness.

The research on illuminated signs is just one way that SRF is contributing to greater understanding of the importance of on-premise signs. To see more research like this, visit the SRF website.
