Maryland County Establishes New EMC Regulations

Maryland County Establishes New EMC Regulations

On May 17, Frederick County, Md., commissioners passed new amendments to the sign regulations by a vote of 4 to 1. Among the changes enacted are increased sign area for agricultural roadside stands and new rules for the location and use of electronic message centers. New EMCs can be up to 32 square feet, may change every 10 seconds and must be equipped with automatic dimming capability to adjust to ambient light levels. These new EMC standards are more generous than those in surrounding counties. On April 13, ISA’s Kenny Peskin testified before the county Planning Commission in support of the proposed regulations.
