NCCCO Grants ISA's Request for Reclassification

NCCCO Grants ISA’s Request for Reclassification

As a result of an Aug. 3 request from ISA, the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) has reclassified mobile cranes in which the machine is configured with rotating controls attached to the side of the boom and the operator walks along the bed of the truck as Telescopic Boom Fixed Cabs. Until now, this style of equipment was classified as a Telescopic Boom Swing Cab. This reclassification simplifies the training and testing requirements for many sign industry crane operators that is necessary to comply with new OSHA regulations requiring certification of all mobile crane operators.

Earlier this year, ISA introduced a mobile crane operator training course that prepares students for the OSHA written and practical exams. The three-day training is immediately followed by a half-day of testing. Participants successfully completing the training and testing are fully certified for five years. ISA offers the training and testing throughout the country at significantly reduced rates for our members.
