Representing the Sign Industry to Planners

Planners from around the United States recently learned about developing better sign regulations directly from ISA at the APA’s 2019 National Planning Conference in San Francisco, CA.

Over 300 local officials attended ISA’s two education sessions at the annual planning conference, including a “Planning for Sign Code Success”-meets-TED Talk workshop and a panel presentation on “Regulating Historic Signs.” The sessions featured planners, sign manufacturers, attorneys, and historic preservationists as speakers, and were moderated by James Carpentier, ISA’s Director of State and Local Government Affairs.

With just over 6,000 attendees, many at the National Planning Conference stopped by ISA’s booth to get their sign code questions answered and to walk away with the latest resources from the Sign Research Foundation (SRF).

Planners brought 15 sign code challenges to ISA’s attention at the conference, and ISA is working with local officials to provide the sign industry’s perspective in those communities.

Connecting with planners at the annual event is just one way the sign, graphics and visual communications industry is building a bridge to this important constituency – the local officials who draft and enforce sign codes. ISA and SRF have developed a number of resources that sign and graphics companies can help as their communities explore sign code changes. Learn more at www.signs.org/local.
