Tariffs on Imports of Aluminum and Steel

President Trump has announced tariffs on imported aluminum (10%) and steel (25%), effective March 23. Canada and Mexico have been exempted from the new trade policy.

Many products of the sign, graphics and visual communications industry have components made from aluminum and steel. If these tariffs raise the costs and lower the availability of these raw materials, there could be negative consequences on sign supplies and products downstream.

Get more information at ISA Sign Expo next Saturday, March 24. A discussion on steel and aluminum tariffs will be held during the ISA Town Hall Meeting from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. The room location is in the Lounge & Learn, Booth 5245. Attendance is open to and free for all registrants of ISA Sign Expo. In addition to the ISA Town Hall Meeting, ISA is seeking member input to monitor how this cost increase on imports affects the sign industry. To provide your perspective, please email David Hickey, ISA Vice President of Advocacy.

The tariffs are sure to be a hot topic of discussion at ISA International Sign Expo in Orlando, FL, March 21-24, where professionals from the sign, graphics and visual communications industry will have an opportunity to brainstorm with peers and talk with ISA staff about effective ways to deal with this new trade policy.

ISA will continue working with like-minded organizations in Washington, DC, to support economic policies that allow sign companies, suppliers, distributors and sign users to protect and grow their business.

Please contact ISA’s David Hickey if you have questions.
