Washington State Rule Change Allows LED Retrofit

A Rule Change effective February 23, 2018 expands the scope of the State of Washington Sign Specialty License (04).

The newly expanded scope allows LED retrofit on existing luminaires or lighting fixtures. State of Washington sign specialty electricians can now “install retrofit kits within housings of existing luminaires that are mounted on a pole or other structure with like-in-kind or retrofit components.” The existing license only allowed the service, maintainance, or repair of luminaires.

Northwest Sign Council (NWSC) member Randy Hanson initiated this Rule Change request on June 15, 2017. This Rule Change request was supported by other NWSC members and ISA’s James Carpentier.

This Rule Change creates another opportunity for NWSC sign companies to grow their businesses and is a direct result of your membership in NWSC and ISA.

Additional information on the Rule Change is available at the Department of Labor and Industries at this link. A copy of the New Rule is available here.
